Artist Training

Learning Labs

Learning Labs are interactive, arts-based workshops designed to support arts workers as they imagine, build, and take action toward an industry powered by equity, access and inclusion for all humans. Each workshop ends with a clear action-item for participants to use in their arts practice immediately.

In 2022, more than 200 artists and arts workers participated in our Learning Labs.

Artist Training

Victorian College of the Arts Training Program

In 2018, we partnered with the University of Melbourne’s Victorian College of the Arts to deliver a six-week pilot artist training program. Our cohort of 12 young BIPOC artists learnt bodywork, dialects, stage combat, vocal anatomy and storytelling from more than 20 directors, actors and academics. Students and their families were invited to attend productions to increase their exposure to professional theatre, and many mentors have continued their connection with participants to this day.

Professional Development

Global Conversations

Stage A Change partnered with Theatre Communications Group and Green Door Theatre Company to present the first in a series called Global Conversations: Critical Review. In partnership with TCG's Rising Leaders of Colour program, we brought together 5 emerging journalists from Australia, 3 from the US. We were joined by veteran writers from both countries to talk about their experiences, processes and advice for rising journalists of colo(u)r. The Australian journalists who joined the panel were Vyshnavee Wijekumar and Sonia Nair. This international conversation was made possible by the gifts to Stage A Change via our Australian Cultural Fund appeal earlier in the year.
